on being successful

to understand what it means to be successful in life, it is important we first understand success itself.

simply put: success is the accomplishment of a goal.

therefore statistically speaking, to lead a successful life would mean to achieve >50% of our goals. in other words, accomplishing more goals than we fall short of during the course of our lives.

so does success look the same for everyone? yes. like we stated earlier, it is the accomplishment of a goal.

however, goals differ: one might strive to achieve A, B, C, D and E while the other might strive to achieve V, W, X, Y and Z. but if both achieve 3 (or more) out of the 5 goals over the course of their lives, they’ve both (mathematically speaking) led successful lives.

what i’m trying to drive home here is that it would be in our best interests to worry less about being successful and instead, allocate more time to actually deciding what goals to pursue.

because even if we aren’t successful (i.e. we fail at accomplishing >50% of our goals) we want to at the very least enjoy the pursuit. and that can only happen if we are really thoughtful, intentional and deliberate about the goals we decide to pursue and dedicate our lives to, rather than just blindly following the herd.
