how to run a marathon

we’re all aware that life is a marathon, not a sprint. but how do you run a marathon? how do you make it enjoyable, instead of miserable? how do you make it so that you look forward to the marathon of life instead of dreading it?

it’s very simple: no matter what happens, you don’t look up.

keep your head down. focus on one step at a time. give each step the attention, focus and respect it deserves. but once you’ve taken that step, forget about it. be present in each and every moment. don’t dwell in the past. don’t worry about the future and the journey ahead. remember: one step at a time.

and most importantly, don’t waste time looking around at how far others have come along. purely from a selfish pov, every second you spend (read waste) being concerned with someone else’s marathon is one second less you’re devoting to progressing in your own. time is the only finite currency we have, so you wanna be really careful with how you spend it.

in this life we have three currencies: time, knowledge and money. we often exchange them for each other. the most common examples being going to school (trading time and money for knowledge) and working a job (trading our knowledge for money).

you can spend all the money in the world and still make it back. and sharing your knowledge won’t decrease it. time however, is a tricky one. all the money and knowledge in the world combined still won’t be able increase the amount of time you have on earth. you may be able to free up some of the time you already have, but you can’t increase it. so you need to treat it with the utmost care and respect. because you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and that stands true especially for time.
